Ambitions for September: Blogging and Financial Planning

I’ve been having trouble focusing lately. Since returning to Paris, I’ve had many people to visit and I’m staying with my mom, helping her around the house. On top of that, living in this situation at 32 isn’t ideal. I’ve postponed a lot of tasks for too long, so I’m setting some specific goals for September and will check on my progress in a month.

Blog Goals:

1. Find a suitable picture for each article. It’s more challenging than I thought to find images that respect copyright. I have many personal photos, but not many related to finance.

2. Update SEO on each article. I’ll need to add titles, descriptions, and keywords using a WordPress SEO add-on.

3. Link my articles to each other. Many related posts lack internal links.

4. Fix the Tweet and Facebook “Like” buttons on each article. They haven’t been functioning correctly.

5. Create my Facebook app. This task has been delayed since I started the blog. It’s needed to add a Facebook widget so people can follow me on Facebook.

6. Update my Twitter account. I need to organize my lists to better manage the people I follow.

7. Download Dreamweaver to tweak my blog’s design. I love the theme I’m using, but I need to make some personal adjustments that I can’t do on WordPress since I don’t understand PHP. I’ll leave this task for last because Dreamweaver has a 30-day trial period, and I don’t want to waste it.

Financial Goals:

1. Spend as little as possible. Whenever I’m back in town, I spend a lot on social outings. This month is tight because I have an unexpected $1000 tax bill and my apartment sale fell through, so I won’t get that big check in October. I still have to pay $400 a month for the condo fee and door rental. I’m currently staying with my mom, so at least I’m saving on rent.

2. Use my bicycle or public transportation. I tend to be lazy and now that I have a motorcycle, it’s tempting to use it to visit friends. However, parking in Paris is tough and risky. This week, I’ll take my bicycle out of my mom’s storage and start cycling or using the subway. Plus, I can enjoy drinks with friends without worrying about DUIs.

Work-Related Goals:

1. Earn extra cash. I need to find a temp job or take on more writing gigs. I have contacts for both options.

2. Handle my landlord duties. One of my UK tenants is moving out, so I need to find a new tenant by the end of the month. My flat is usually popular, especially with people looking for housing as school starts, so it shouldn’t be too difficult.

3. Sell my Parisian studio. The buyer backed out, so I’ll list it again and advertise widely to sell it.

That’s all for now!
