This post is part of a 30-day series called the 30 Steps Program to Financial Independence.
We all have a dream of what life would be like if we didn’t have to work for money, or work at all. What would you do with that freedom? Go fishing, spend more time with your family, maybe volunteer?
I often daydream about my ideal life, but interestingly, I never fantasize about having lots of money, a huge mansion, or a fancy car. Instead, I dream of a simple life filled with meaningful activities and strong relationships with family and friends.
Sometimes, I imagine living in the countryside, growing my own vegetables, making homemade cheese, fixing up a charming house, and perhaps running a bed and breakfast for travelers. Other times, I see myself enjoying the Parisian lifestyle, and when I’m not in Paris, I’m traveling the world, from New York to hidden beaches in the Caribbean. I believe my financially independent life will be a mix of both these dreams.
Since I want to have a family and kids, I’ll need to slow down on traveling and find a place to settle down. Right now, I can’t afford anything close to Paris or any large city. A rural location would be more feasible if I still want to enjoy my savings for travel and avoid working.
So, imagine you’ve finally left your job and are ready to live your dream life. Congratulations! It has certainly taken years of hard work and dedication, but it was worth it, right?
I haven’t reached that point yet, but I’m on my way. I already have some freedom and a bit of passive income that allows me to work much less than most people. My current situation is already enjoyable.
It will be even better when my passive income can cover all my expenses! That’s the ultimate goal. Once you’re financially independent, you can focus on what truly matters to you, the things you love and are passionate about.
This goal might seem distant, but if you pursue it wholeheartedly, you will eventually achieve it.
