Good morning everyone! I’m excited to announce my first giveaway, where you have a chance to win $75 in cash or Amazon vouchers! If you’d like to know more about me, check out my guest post on Daily Money Shot where I share the story of how my piano was stolen, along with some tips on staying safe while traveling.
Jana, the amazing blogger behind Daily Money Shot, is also my mentor in the Bloggers Helping Bloggers program. Today, I’m joining other bloggers in a group post about being thankful. With Thanksgiving approaching, many of you might be reflecting on your blessings. Although I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving, it’s a great moment to appreciate how lucky we truly are. Here are a few things I am thankful for:
Health
Health is one of my most treasured assets. Aside from the occasional flu and a tropical illness called bilharzia, I’ve been fortunate to enjoy good health. It has enabled me to achieve everything I’ve done so far. I have no chronic conditions like asthma, allergies, or eczema, which many of my friends struggle with. Often, we don’t realize the blessing of good health until we lose it, so I try to remind myself to be grateful.
Family
I come from a large family, so there’s always someone to talk to. My aging but sharp grandparents are a great comfort. I have a beautiful little niece and a very cool 15-year-old brother who, thankfully, hasn’t turned into a typical ungrateful teenager (yet!). Though my family is far away, they’ve always supported my life choices and allowed me to be free, which is the ultimate sign of love.
Freedom
I was born in a free country and each day, I wake up able to do what I please. Many people don’t have this privilege. I am deeply grateful to those who fought for my freedom and for having lived in peace for my 32 years. I haven’t faced deprivation, invasion fears, or human rights restrictions.
Friends
My friends have been incredible, sticking by me even during the last ten years when I was living far away and we could only meet twice a year. The number of friends I have is small, but they’re a wonderful group that never gave up on me, and I know I can always count on them.
Blogging
Starting to blog four months ago has been a great experience. After spending five years reading personal finance, lifestyle, and travel blogs, I’m finding it incredibly fulfilling to be part of the blogging community. I’ve “met” many amazing people who have shared their opinions and helped me with my blog, finances, and life goals. Seeing the world through their eyes has opened my mind to other perspectives. Thank you for sharing your stories and for reading, commenting, and supporting mine!
Housing
I am thankful for having a roof over my head and, after two years of traveling, a place where I can begin to settle down. Everything has turned out well so quickly—I have electricity, running water, a safe house, and plenty of furniture and household items left by the previous owner, saving me the expense of new purchases.
Money
I am grateful that money isn’t a constant worry in my life; I can comfortably put food on the table and pay my bills. I can sleep at night without the stress of debt or foreclosure. I’m also thankful for graduating college debt-free and starting my investment journey early, allowing me to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle at a young age.
Food
Guatemala is a paradise for food lovers. With its eternal spring-like climate, you can find strawberries, watermelons, blackberries, or peaches all year round. The avocados are superb, the meat is tender, the eggs are free-range, and everything tastes just as it should—all at affordable prices. I am grateful for the delicious and bountiful food on my table every day.
