Navigating the Chaos: Day 63 of Coronado Quarantine

It’s been a while since I last blogged! With all this quarantine time, I’ve decided to get back into journaling and blogging. I hope to keep both you and myself entertained along the way. You might feel like you’ve missed a lot, and honestly, you probably have! I’ll try to catch you up as we go. In the meantime, stay safe and remember to wash your hands.

We’ve been in lockdown for over two months now, and I still don’t fully understand it. I’m especially confused by the mixed messages from my husband’s work and the local government.

At my husband’s job, the Marines are given different instructions every day. One day they’re told to work in shifts, the next day they’re back to full-time because it looks bad if they don’t. One day they’re supposed to avoid each other, and the next they’re all crammed together. It’s exhausting to keep up with, so I’ve stopped trying to make sense of it.

My husband is stressed out because of all this, and it sucks, but there’s nothing I can do to change it, so I don’t try.

Yesterday, San Diego County announced that we’re moving to Phase 2, which means restaurants are open for dine-in and malls are open. But at the same time, the county’s website says we’re still under a stay-at-home order and should only go out for essential needs. Essential needs are things like work, buying food, exercising, and medical appointments. So, is going out to eat now considered essential?

People seem to have stopped caring. I had two handymen come to look at my AC. The first one wore a mask halfway and shook my hand when he left. The second one didn’t wear a mask at all and asked if I cared. When I said no, he came in without any concern for social distancing.

In reality, we don’t have many cases here—only 18 on Coronado Island, though it could be more since military bases aren’t allowed to disclose their numbers.

So, is life back to semi-normal? I went out for food yesterday, but I don’t feel like dining in at a restaurant. Especially since restaurant workers don’t make much money or have healthcare, so they’re more likely to come to work sick because they need the income.

I guess I’ll just stay home a bit longer.
