Good morning! Just a heads-up: the UK tax year ends on April 5th, so you only have a few days left to use up your ISA allowance.
In January, I set five big financial goals for 2014, and now it’s time for an update!
1. Rent out the guest house: Check.
2. Increase net worth by 30%: I didn’t hit this goal last year, but I’m optimistic and aiming for it again in 2014. By the end of Q1, I’m up 13%, so I’m on track for the year! I’ve freed up some cash from investments and had a good quarter trading forex, counting only the profits from closed positions.
3. Make $60,000 in online income: If you follow my blog income reports, you know I currently make $3-4,000 a month from blogging. I want to increase that to $5,000. My goal is to live comfortably off my online income and reinvest passive/rental income. In January, I made $3,290; in February, $7,063; and in March, $4,950, totaling $15,303 so far. This is promising, especially considering January also brought in 45% of Savvy Scot’s purchase price, not included in these figures.
4. Keep donating 10% of online income to charity: Since July 2013, I’ve set aside 10% of my online income for charity. I’m helping two students in my village attend one of the best high schools, bought supplies and uniforms for young girls, and started a computer class with four computers, two bought by me and two donated by readers.
5. Turn a profit with land development: We almost have all the necessary authorizations and have already sold some plots. The website is up with a map of the compound where you can see the size and price of each plot. We’re on track to recoup our purchase price by year’s end.
6. Make $5,000 with the guest house: My goal is to make around $500 a month renting rooms, totaling $5,000 for the year. As of March 31st, I’ve made $1,970, which is ahead of schedule. Although April looks empty, I have bookings for May, and I anticipate a slow July-August due to the rainy season.
That’s it for now. What are your personal goals?
